To understand the history of the anti-rape movement, one must have a full understanding of the fight for women to have the same civil rights as men. Out of this fight women started gathering in what was called "consciousness raising groups", where they shared their thoughts, feelings and experiences. From these gatherings women started realizing that they were not alone -- that many others were also being abused, neglected and or sexually assaulted. It's out of these meetings we really started to get a grasp on the number of individuals who were sexually abused as children.
The Awareness Center closed. We operated from April 30, 1999 - April 30, 2014. This site is being provided for educational & historical purposes. We were the international Jewish Coalition Against Sexual Abuse/Assault (JCASA); and were dedicated to ending sexual violence in Jewish communities globally. We did our best to operate as the make a wish foundation for Jewish survivors of sex crimes. In the past we offered a clearinghouse of information, resources, support and advocacy.
