Over the last 24 hours I was reminded that it was Tisha B'Av.
For those who are orthodox it's sort of like the national day of mourning of the loss of the first and second Temple.
I can't help but think about how many Jewish survivors of sexual abuse who are told "to just get over it, the abuse happened to you as children or years ago".
Why is it that for several thousand years we can mourn the loss of the Beis HaMikdash, but survivors of sex crimes are not allowed to mourn the loss of their innocence?
The Awareness Center closed. We operated from April 30, 1999 - April 30, 2014. This site is being provided for educational & historical purposes. We were the international Jewish Coalition Against Sexual Abuse/Assault (JCASA); and were dedicated to ending sexual violence in Jewish communities globally. We did our best to operate as the make a wish foundation for Jewish survivors of sex crimes. In the past we offered a clearinghouse of information, resources, support and advocacy.

Because people are afraid. Of so MANY things. To look in the face of what survivors have faces is too much for them. Among other things, they fear man more than God. Also, they may fear that if these "Torah scholars" can do such a thing, what does that mean for the legitimacy of their Torah?
