Over the last few days I've been dealing with a several incest survivors who have touched my heart in a way that brings tears to my eyes not knowing how to help relinquish their pain and isolation from not having a family. All too many survivors who were abused in the home are forced into growing up in foster care and never knowing what it is to have a real family. The following song kept playing in my head as I tried to find healing words to console with.
I remember when I was a pre-teen I used to think this song was pretty dorky. Now I see it had a major impact on my own life. My hope is that this song will be an inspiration to survivors and those who care about them.
I'll admit that when it came out back in 1972, I remember making fun of it. I think I was eleven or twelve. I just wasn't into an operatic voice, yet for me this is the way it should be sung.

"The Impossible Dream"
from MAN OF LA MANCHA (1972)
music by Mitch Leigh and lyrics by Joe Darion
To dream the impossible dream
To fight the unbeatable foe
To bear with unbearable sorrow
To run where the brave dare not go
To right the unrightable wrong
To love pure and chaste from afar
To try when your arms are too weary
To reach the unreachable star
This is my quest
To follow that star
No matter how hopeless
No matter how far
To fight for the right
Without question or pause
To be willing to march into Hell
For a heavenly cause
And I know if I'll only be true
To this glorious quest
That my heart will lie peaceful and calm
When I'm laid to my rest
And the world will be better for this
That one man, scorned and covered with scars
Still strove with his last ounce of courage
To reach the unreachable star
To fight the unbeatable foe
To bear with unbearable sorrow
To run where the brave dare not go
To right the unrightable wrong
To love pure and chaste from afar
To try when your arms are too weary
To reach the unreachable star
This is my quest
To follow that star
No matter how hopeless
No matter how far
To fight for the right
Without question or pause
To be willing to march into Hell
For a heavenly cause
And I know if I'll only be true

That my heart will lie peaceful and calm

That one man, scorned and covered with scars
Still strove with his last ounce of courage
To reach the unreachable star

<<< With applause and a standing ovation for all who fight, against so many odds, for those who have been so very wronged… >>>
Vicki - Todah Rabbah for caring...
The words ring so true:
And the world will be better for this
That one man, scorned and covered with scars
Still strove with his last ounce of courage
To reach the unreachable star
To fight for the right
Without question or pause
To be willing to march into Hell
For a heavenly cause
