olice: Latest Sharon region attack not the work of 'serial rapist'
By Heidi J. Gleit
The Jerusalem Post - August 13, 1999

The man who attempted to rape a young woman in her home on Wednesday is absolutely not the "serial rapist," a Tel Aviv police spokeswoman said yesterday. No progress has been made in the search for the man suspected of sexually assaulting as many as 20 women in the Tel Aviv area over the past few years, she added.

On Wednesday night a minor complained to police that earlier that day a man had forced his way into her home in the Sharon

region and tried to rape her, Sharon District Police spokesman Ch.-Supt. Yossi Almoslinos said. She managed to fight him off, he added.

The Netanya Magistrate's Court yesterday banned publishing any other details of the rape attempt for 10 days.

Meanwhile, the Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court yesterday remanded a Petah Tikva man, 33, until Sunday on suspicion that he raped a colleague. The suspect claims that they had consensual sex.

The suspect gave the woman and two other colleagues a ride home from a wedding, according to police. After dropping off his other passengers, he parked by her home and asked if he could come inside. When she refused, he locked the car doors and raped her, police said.
Itim adds:

A 14-year-old Haifa youth admitted to police that he raped a five-year-old girl on Friday evening. The child's mother complained to police and the youth confessed shortly after being arrested.

Another Haifa youth, 15, who was arrested for raping two women in Haifa's Hadar Hacarmel neighborhood recently, told police on Wednesday night that he and a friend raped them as well as a third women. His friend was arrested yesterday.

Haifa police also arrested a man, 23, suspected of raping a pregnant woman at the Hadera train station.
