Police are continuing their investigation of three employees suspected of accepting bribes

TEL AVIV –– In 2006, 148 files were opened against Tel Aviv municipal employees for disciplinary offences, two more than the previous year. According to the Hebrew weekly Tel Aviv, 74 employees were tried in internal proceedings, 18 cases were referred to the police for continued, possibly criminal investigation and 62 cases were closed without any action being taken against the employee. Half the cases referred to the police dealt with complaints of sexual harassment. 

The largest number of complaints related to the Operations Division, 62. Of these, more than half (34) were filed against sanitation employees and 12 against city inspectors. There were 34 complaints against employees of the education administration, 18 in the financial departments and 11 at Ichilov Hospital. 

In addition to sexual harassment, other serious cases include 10 employees who were suspended for violent behavior, while in three cases of violence the employees were fined, warned and returned to work. The police are continuing their investigation of three employees suspected of accepting bribes - two parking inspectors and one in the business licensing department.
